Shakespeare is generally accepted to be an actor/playwright who lived in the late 1500's and early 1600's. Very little is known about him. One of the few documents we have concerning his personal life is his marriage certificate to Anne Hathaway.

Because of the education shown in his plays, some people believe the plays must have been written by someone other than an actor. Theories abound, including Sir Francis Bacon, and a member of the court whose crest included 2 crossed spears.
