Well, first of all "the poor" don't usually need more of an incentive to work, thus solving their "poor" situation, there are many factors that contribute to the existance of "the poor", only one of them being low wages.

Raising the minimum wage would increase the standard of living for all those already working at minimum wage, but wouldn't really encourage those not working to run out and get a minimum wage job because they pay an extra quarter per hour.

A better idea would be to put some of that money into obtainable education for those working at the minimum wage level so they can get a better job with advancement possibilities and some bennies. This would help eliminate the pool of workers only qualified to do the lowest of jobs, and encourage employers to eliminate these crappy positions and replace them with some real options for people who want to support themselves. Somebody always has to sweep the floor, but if nobody was willing to do it for $5 an hour, they'd find a way to get it done and allow people to eat at the same time.

No, in spite of the undeniable fact that it does enhance maximum union wages. The grimy little key is that union contracts index their wages to the minimum, regularly so as that union wages bypass up thrice as quickly as minimum salary. subsequently Democrats, who're supported via unions, vote to enhance the minimum salary. via doing this, companies are compelled to enhance wages for workers plenty extra effective than what's easy, and this will enhance the charges for us all and in turn we pay attention extra calls from liberal Democrats to enhance the minimum salary back. this is a cycle that would desire to be stopped or our economic gadget will finally fall.

Yes it should be raised. It should be a "living wage" instead where they can at least afford things like owning a house etc.. The raise of it going to $7.25 in a few years is'nt going to really help them make ends meet much .Now it it was a "living wage" on the other hand.. they could make ends meet!

I think it is a good idea, but we have a problem in this country (UK) in that alot of people think they are too good to do a job carrying minimum wage - that's why shop assistants and waitresses don't have the manners they used too because they mostly think it['s below themselves to do a job such as that!!

I think Minimum wage needs to be in response to the COLA (Cost of living expensives). You can't really live without it.

Certainly. More people would be willing to work. Even if less people are hired, at least they would work hard to be deserving of the money or be fired.
