It depends on the car & where it's driven. At least 100,000 miles fo rmost cars.

Since exhast cats and especially since the most recent super clean cars exhaust system can go anytime. Water is constantly pouring down the pipe and it is v. acidic. On my last new car the whole system went after 2 years flat. I had old bangers in the past that went 100000, so much for 'green' It's only green if it doesn't waste you more energy by needing to be manufactured and replaced 5 times as often.
And if turning 'standby' off means you need to have the start up capacitors on electrical stuff replaced every couple of years how is that green either! Lots of myths abounding!

It really depends on where you live and the quality of the muffler you replace.

Most modern vehicles use stainless steel and this allows the exhaust systems to last signficantly longer, but road salt in on winter roads can still cause problems.

Mine needs replacement about every year but I don't drive very much and only city driving so it never gets a chance to heat up and dry up the condensation.

Depends on where you live. If you live in a snowy environment the shorter than a sunny environment. Same for living on the coast (salt water) or land locked.

it all depends how you drive, if you drive short trips the system won't last as long as if you do long trips where the system gets good and hot and burns out all the condensation in the pipes.

On my chevy metro every damn year! But I guess it depends on where you live too. I live in Michigan, and snow, salt and rain, all wear down my exahust pretty quickly. You'll know when it starts making noises.
