I went off the pill two months ago because me and my husband wanted to try to start a family. I have been on the pill for over ten years and had no idea how fast or slow things would progress. I have been charting my temperature for the past month and there was a possibility of conception this month somewhere between March 30th and April 4th. So yesterday morning I took a HPT and got a really really faint line (hardly even detectable) and this morning I took another and the line is definitely darker but not as dark as the control line. So my question is should I confirm with a blood test before we tell our family and friends. I have already called and made my appointment with the doctor, but the nurse is calling me back to answer some questions. In addition before going on the pill 10 years ago my periods were very irregualar but since I have stopped taking the pill I have had two normal periods and my husband really wants the doctor to confirm before we tell anyone. Any advise?

Here is the best advise i can give you . From personal experience I got a faint line on a HPT and then confirmed threw blood work at the doc. i told everyone i could i was pregnant. I was very excited. Then a week later i had a miscarrage. Then i have to explain to everyone i had already told what had happend and it was like reliving the horrable experience again.

If your faint line is confirmed at the doc i would wait it out as hard as it is until at least the 1st 3 months before announcing it. If something was to happen, i pray that it doesnt for you. but if it was to happen it is a aweful feeling of haveing to explain to everyone what happend.

Good luck and BABY DUST!

You were only off the pill for 2 months? You're suppose to be off it for atleast 6 months before trying to get pregnant...well that's what my doctor said anyway.

Definitely confirm with a doctor and some people wait until they're done their first trimester to tell people just because after the first trimester not much goes wrong in a pregnancy. However if you're excited and must tell people than you should! Just confirm it with a doctor first so you don't get everyones hopes up for nothing.

Best of Luck and Congrats!

Definitely wait until you have a definte yes before you start telling the world. There is nothing worse that spilling the beans too soon and then getting to the doctor and it was nothing and having to call everyone up and tell them that you made a mistake. Honestly I would recommend waiting until the first trimester is up that will everything is out of the clear. My husband and I told my 2 sisters, my three best firends and mom but I waited until the first trimester before we told anyone else. Good Luck and Congratulations!!!!

I say wait it out to confirm. There is nothing worse than spreading happy news and then having to explain it over and over if it turns out that you are not. Although, you did get two faint lines and that's a VERY good sign and you probably are pregnant but I still say wait it out.
Even still many people wait until the three month mark to tell people. Before 3 months the pregnancy is still very fragile and I believe that people don't say anything just in case something happens.
I know it's hard to bottle up your joy, I couldn't but I only told my Mom and aunt before I got to three months.

It sounds like you have a good chance of being pregnant. It's rare to get false positives.

But I would definitely confirm before telling your family and friends. However, waiting 3 months because you might miscarry is not good because no matter what happens, conceiving is good news that should be shared. And if something did happen, no one would ever know you were pregnant and you need that support and recognition.

I know it's hard to wait - this is such an exciting thing!

If you are getting 2 lines, no matter how faint, you are pg. I would however, wait till you are 3 months along or have your first ultrasound, whatever comes first. Possibility of misscarriage is highest in the first 3 months. Good luck!

I'd suggest waiting to be honest. Not trying to scare you but we tend'd to wait until close to 7-12 wks before telling anyone.. becuase the chance of Misscarrage. It would have to be horrible to say 'yay we're pregnant and for some reason it didnt stay then you have yo say you lost it.

well you will have to conforim with either a urine or blood test for your obgyn anyways, so dont complicate if you should or shouldnt. as far as being pregnant, first of all congrats. but i always waited till 12 weeks, where the possibility of misccarige goes down. but truly it is up to you, if you cant wait that long, you shoul try to at least wait until you hear or see the heartbeat at your ob appt.
