During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, you may notice episodes when your belly tightens and becomes firm to the touch, then relaxes. These are episodes of tightening (contraction) of the uterine muscles called Braxton Hicks contractions. These normal contractions may be hardly noticeable or may be strong enough to make you stop what you are doing.

Considered "practice contractions" for the uterus.
Braxton Hicks contractions can begin as early as the 20th week of pregnancy, although most often they start between the 28th and 30th week.

Braxton Hicks contractions are usually infrequent in midpregnancy. However, they can be more frequent during the ninth month, sometimes occurring as often as every 10 to 20 minutes. Braxton Hicks contractions usually occur less than 4 to 6 times per hour.

Braxton Hicks contractions:

Usually disappear during exercise or activity (unlike true labor pains, which continue or increase if you move around).
Are more noticeable during rest.
It may be difficult to tell the difference between Braxton Hicks contractions and true labor. If there is any doubt, consult your health professional.

yeah the ones are almost always braxton hicks. they must be within the shrink stomach area. should you begin to suppose shrink BACK affliction, that could be truly contractions. in the event that they get extra painful and you'll time them and so they end up a sample of ways normally they arise, its time to visit the health practitioner asap. however its not anything incorrect with going besides if you are uncertain. greater nontoxic than sorry. however yeah every person is distinct.....distinct folks have braxton hicks at distinct occasions of their being pregnant. i've an eight week ancient youngster and that i began braxton hicks round 28-30 weeks.

Just be sure to tell your doctor at your next appointment.

I started having BH at 18 weeks and told her at my 20 week check up and the little stinker even proved it to her because I had one while she was measuring me. Well, again at my 28 week check up I mentioned that they got stronger and more frequent so, since then I have been on a closer watch. I'm now almost 31 weeks and get checked every 2 weeks to see if I will go into preterm labor with a test called Fetal Fibronectin. It tests for a protein in the cervix that is produced about 1-3 weeks before delivery. The test is done every 2 weeks and if it is negative you have a 1% chance of going into labor, if positive you have a 99% chance of going into labor within 1-3 weeks, therefore they will give you steriod shots to help the lungs mature. (This is my 4th baby and I had my youngest at 35 weeks) So I'm really happy they can do this test to prevent problems. I suggest you atleast mention the BH to your doctor and if they get worse or more frequent let her know so you and the doctor can take steps to prevent another preterm baby.

Good Luck!

i had braxton hicks pretty early too. I want to say around 20 weeks though, not 14 like you...
My son I had them later in pregnancy and he was fine.
Ask your doctor at your next visit, but i dint think theres anything to worry about. ( ps I read a tip that said if you get dehydrated that brings on braxton hicks, so drink up little missy!)

I always have Braxton-Hicks contractions early in my pregnancy and actually, with my third pregnancy they came earlier than the first two, so you never know.

Since you know how these "practice contractions" feel then there is no need to worry. That's what you are feeling. Your uterus might be doing this earlier because it's been through a pregnancy before.

I would call your physician to atleast set your mind at ease. Braxton hicks do occur earlier with each baby but since you have ahistory of preterm labor, it would be safest to let your Dr. know what is going on. Good Luck!

The safest thing to do is call the doctor. They know your medical history and have been caring for you since the start of this pregnancy. Nothing we can tell you will make you fell any better than info from a trained medical professional. Good luck.

if this is your first you should consult your doc but if it isn't it is normal you get them worse when you have had more than one baby.
