Whatever a person is, says, or does, there will be another person ready to condemn them - usually in the name of a god.
I really do know what the answer is ... except be yourself.
No-one can take away from me what I am as an individual person.
I am am not going to made to feel bad about being a decent, moral person, who lives a quiet life and tries to be a positive influence in the lives of the people around me.
If people doen't like the fact that I am only attracted to women, then that is their problem not mine.
I really do know what the answer is ... except be yourself - even if that is hard.
Hate is wrong ... there can be no debate about that ... if people hate you (whatever "justification" they feel they have) they are wrong.
If people hate me for what I am, I do not need them in my life ... there are enough good people in the world with whom to make friend, who will support you, and love you for what you are.
You are a good person.
Be yourself.

We have to protect our rights because there are always other people that like to abuse certain rights to try to take our rights away. It's not always 'holy people' that pull that crap. If there is a God, he obviously is not interested in government or protecting the 'rights' of anybody. It's that whole 'free will' thing. You could say that the Nazis had 'free will' and chose to annihilate the Jews. Good people had 'free will' and chose to fight the Nazis and end the genocide (even though we know that saving the Jews wasn't the main reason for defeating Hitler) BUT, some may also claim that God 'stepped in' somehow not all the Jews died. It's like how people thank God when one person lives even though 1000 die.
If there is a God, a lot of people say that God would want you to make the 'right' choice for yourself. If you really believe the 'right' choice is to pretend you are something you are not, then go for it. Personally, that would not feel like the 'right' choice for me. I do think that it's 'wrong' to drag religion into topics involving basic human rights. We obviously can't all agree on a religious level so, to be fair, religion and politics have to be separate or we'd be dealing with holy wars everytime we walked out the front door.

I went through pretty much everything you did, except the marrying a woman. I did have a baby with one, but that's another story.
I hated myself, I condemned myself for being gay, I took sleeping pills at night so I wouldn't dream about men (seriously), etc.
Then I realized: All that came from that was that I hated myself and was addicted to sleeping pills. Not really a positive outcome at all, since I was still utterly and relentlessly gay. So why was I still holding myself accountable to such a group of people that don't even really care about me at all? They seek to mentally enslave; to force you to admit something so personal as sexual orientation on their terms instead of yours, as they rightfully should be. In the end, it all comes down to whether or not they understand the concept of "love the sinner, hate the sin" (of course, I don't believe it's a sin, but you'll never convince them otherwise). If you really love someone, you understand that the things that make them happy (that don't hurt others, obviously) are more important than what you think of them. THAT is what God wants from them, and from you, and from everyone else. Whether or not they believe in such "liberal nonsense". And unfortunately, we have to protect our rights from them because they are the majority. You would think that in a democracy, the majority would have a moral obligation to protect the rights of the minority, but once again, that's a whole other discussion right there.

To be honest with you, I'm not gay, but I have no problem with people who are. My problem is when people "experiment" or become part of the "gay culture" as a sort of trendy phase. When that happens, people, especially young children, are influenced by certain actions and because they dont KNOW being gay is not a CHOICE, they assume that they can decide if they want a boy or girlfriend because they're confused about what being gay really entails. Since that's where my concern is, I assume I'm not the only one and I'm guessing that's why most have their guard up. The people who are really gay end up suffering in the end because of the stigma associated with the subculture which is in part exaggerated by those "phase-going" rebels.

I think you're confusing secular rights with religious dogma.
I went through a lot of what you describe and my only answer is this: If we start allowing theocracy to define what groups of people are allowed certain rights we have failed in this ongoing experiment we call "Democracy."
I believe in my country and what it should be. I believe that the US was meant to be "The new world" and set forth new ideas, new ideals and a new way of treating all citizens fairly. Unfortunately the PEOPLE of my nation have failed miserably in that ideal. Throughout our history we have segragated and marginalized our own citizens all the while claiming we have a classless society.
We're hypocrites at best.

We have to accept ourselves for what and who we are, first and foremost, and regardless of what others think of us. That is the first step in protecting ourselves -- to not allow ourselves to be snowed under by the demands of homophobic, intolerant bigots who would tell us that we are corrupt, or that we are going to hell. Ignore the so-called holy people. I have yet to meet any who are tolerant. Here are a couple of quotes from REVEREND Jerry Falwell and REVEREND Pat Robertson -- obviously, we can see that they (and those who follow them) are intent on making our lives miserable:
"[homosexuals are] brute beasts...part of a vile and satanic system [that] will be utterly annihilated, and there will be a celebration in heaven." Jerry Falwell: Quoted in Jim Hill and Rand Cheadle, "The Bible Tells Me So", Anchor Books (1996), Pages 69-70
"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

Man, switch religions. Obviously, the one you're following ain't workin. If it's not working, it must be false.
Reach deep in your heart... do those scriptures and what not really FEEL true? I doubt it.
By no means am I saying to follow my religion. If mine is right for you, you'll find it with no help from me.
There are so many to choose from, and you can even start your own!

We have to protect EVERYONE'S rights because history is riddled with rulers using concentrated power to remove people's rights to make them sub-human and subservient.
A fight for one person's rights is a fight for everyone's rights. Rights cannot be sacrificed for convenience or luxury because there will be neither without rights. It is just recently in history that there was even a recognition of universal human rights. I, as the son of parent's of modest means, do not want to go back to being a serf for some crazy king who only has his own interests in mind. I want the rights that give me the freedom to take care of myself.

IMHO, we have to protect and fight for our rights because these allegedly 'holy' people believe we are something other than human. Or that because we are gays and lesbians, that we should be relegated to a subservient status.
All the while seeing to it that we pay more than our fair share in income and property (to educate THEIR little darlings) taxes.

Then one must ask the question "Who keeps making those gay babies?"
Now, since ALL things come from God, why does God "permit" gays and lesbians?
To teach us tolerance.
Never pretend to be something you are not
