If you are connecting to a domestic flight, the domestic and international terminals are separate - about 1 km apart. There is a train connecting the two which is free if you have a boarding pass. Access to the stations is easy - there are lifts and escalators at each end.
If you are connecting to another international flight there is only one terminal building that is quite small and easy to get around.

Very Easy indeed. For an International Airport, it is small, two floors and thats all. Was there last year as have relatives in Brisbane area and friends are even allowed to overlook the 'Airside' section of the airport (lower area) so you can be waved off after saying goodbye.
The one problem with this is of course if you have a long connection time to transfer, can be a bit dull.

It is not a problem. In Brisbane you will collect your bags and go through customs and immigration at the international terminal then get the train or shuttle bus to the domestic terminal to catch your flight to Canberra. If you don't want to go to Canberra, don't get on the flight, it's very simple. If you do want to go to Canberra, you will have to buy a separate ticket from Brisbane to Canberra, especially if you are travelling with Virgin. Qantas is more flexible and might let you use the Brisbane - Canberra leg of your ticket if you say you missed your flight but Virgin won't. If, however, you have no intention of going to Canberra, just get off the plane in Brisbane and don't look back.

The local domestic airlines are Virgin Blue, and Jetstar. You could book tickets at their websites if you like.
