I am like so fearful of bee's, it sometimes keeps me from ever enjoying the summer and I make a fool out of myself running from them. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. I can't see how so many other people can just walk outside when they are everywere it seems to me! Mainly those woodbarn bee's, hornets and bumble bee's. Those big bee's that make that humming sounds! Just thinking of it makes my spine tingle and dread the summer coming when most everyone else is looking foward to summer! Please day there is a way to get past this? Thanks! I want to not only for my sake but for my kids and husbands sakes! So I can enjoy being outside without fear anymore. I'm so tired of being afraid!

It's all a matter of statistics. What are the actual chances of you being stung by a bee? I have been stung before, but not in about the past 15 years. How about you? Of course, there is still a chance that you might get stung by a bee if you go outside. Unless you are allergic, the worst thing that will happen is that it will hurt some. It will be unpleasant, but it will not be unbearable. In general, you can't live your life in fear of what may happen. You must make the reasonable preparations to prevent what you can and deal with the rest as it comes. Of course, if irrational fears could be reasoned with, we wouldn't have them, so I understand where your coming from. (I'm terrified of heights and I've never ever fallen off of a tall building :) ) Good luck overcoming your fears. It's okay to have them, just don't let them rule your life.

Well there are a number of ways you can get over fears, but you have to understand that some are justified. The fear of bee's is common because a number of people have allergies to them and if stung they can have a disastrous effect, however, if you are not allergic then you have little to fear other then being stung. I was deathly afraid of bees until i was stung because i was told i maybe allegoric to them because other members of my family were. When i did get stung I found that i was not.
Also you should take into account that not all bees are aggressive. Most that you find in the US tend to only attack if they feel threatened. So if you want to save yourself the time have your husband check for hives before hand so you know if you maybe a threat to that bee or wasps home. also you do more harm then good by running and making a commotion because it draws the bee to you. its best to sit very still and let the bee go on its merry way leaving you both no worse for wear.

Oh God yes! I thought i was the only person in the world who keeps my windows shut in the summer! I even do a check every night before i can sleep! Nothing worse than that horrible sound behind the blinds! My sister in law has a wasp problem in her close. Unfortunately i failed to realise the extent until it was too late. There were about 2 or 3 hundred wasps flying all around me in the dark staircase! I refused to leave her house until it got dark and they went away. I was crying and everything. Has anyone ever heard the noise of hundreds of wasps buzzing in a echoy staircase? That's pretty scary because they must have been protecting a close set hive. So, confronting a lot of them did nothing to help my phobia. I've never been stung but i accredit this to being a good runner! I'm wary of bee's but wasps are more likely to attack for nothing, and they look evil! At least its a justified phobia!

I used to be deathly afraid of bees, hornets, wasps etc...I'm no longer afraid. I think it's because I've been stung so often that it's just not a big deal anymore. Now I'm able to be outside and not freak out if a bee or wasp buzzes too close. I just casually wave it away and if it persists then I move from the area.

Kitty, you're not alone in this. I am now 39, and I still fear bees and hornets. These insects are no laughing matter. You are right to fear them, because you can never always tell. When we were young, I have a cousin and me play out in an area where there were black bees buzzing about. Guess what? He was stung. When you're in an area with these insects, it is best not to provoke them, but keep away from them.

As long as you are not swatting at them, they don't bite. You have to practice at ignoring them. Don't wear too much perfume as some perfume drive their sense of smell bonkers.

When I was a small lad, I was stung when I stepped into a hornet's nest. Now, they still freak me out but I have since lived with the fact that we are sharing the same earth and just have to go around without stepping on each others nest.

my best friend is scared to death of them too. I remind him that bees are not naturally drawn to sting, they only do it out of feeling threatened. don't wear perfume or strong deodorant while outside and if you find a bee buzzing around you, the last thing you want to do is start panicking..the hormone you throw off while doing this actually excites the bee. just stay calm and breathe deeply, walk away slowly.....your reaction can also save the lives of others, like in a moving car for example. BEE CALM!!!!! sorry, couldn't resist..lol

yeah I'm scared of bees, too... so you are not alone. That makes at least two of us running away from them. Any kind of bee scares me and makes me jump. People tell me to stay still and that they will eventually go away, but when I do that, they just keep buzzing around me... so that really doesn't work too well. What I try to do is try not to wear anything floral so that they don't mistake me for flowers!!! =)

It sounds like you have a phobia, and the only way to treat it is through desensitization: facing your fear. See if your doctor can recommend a good therapist.
BTW, bumblebees don't sting.
Good luck with that.
