As long as you use the correct fittings to tie into the 4" pipe, there is no problem. The other two people are correct with the trap and the vent. Make sure the pipe and fittings are the same type pipe. Good luck!

In addition to the trap on the drain, you will also need to install a vent. Otherwise, the trap could get sucked dry and then sewer gas would enter the house.

You ca'nt run anything into the bottom of any pipe when it comes to drainage. You can run into the top of the pipe , use 2" pipe for the shower drain, & do'nt forget to trap it.
