Wow! I have the exact same problem. I have the cleanest house on the block yet the only house with mice! I HATE them sooooo much that I refuse to be in my house by myself because I am petrified of the d**n things! I think it is because they startle you. I can open my cabinet under the kitchen sink and there is a little critter! I don't know how to overcome our fear but I would appreciate any help also....

Get a pet hamster or mouse! You will see that mice can be good things too. Keep it in a cage and see it up close. Mice are actually very gentle animals! All they want is some food. Just like the rest of us but they have to hunt theirs. We just go to the grocery store. I know what you mean about fears though and understand them because I'm that way with BEE'S! Mostly those big bumble bee's, hornets and wood barn bees that scare the crap out of me.
I have had pet mice though that's even crawled all over my shoulders and I gave them little pieces of cheese. They love it and will not hurt you. But yes. Get a pet mouse or hamster and you will probably start to see your fears of the unknown quickly start diminishing! Good luck!

learn about them. Look them up and try and find some intersting facts. Get a hampster as others have mentioned. Educate your sefl about them with fact and experience. Most are afraid of them because they are somthing that is small and can be invasive of our personal dewellings. They break that sense of security. That is normal. Try and picture life through their eyes. They are way more afraid of us then we are of them.. We are like giant monsters to them. But ya, they are really tame, i would try getting a hampster though. They are soft and fuzzy but also move a bit slower than mice do. They are fast little buggers. Good luck to you!

Go to the pet store with a friend and just watch the mice for a while.

Then when you are ready touch a hamster and work your way up to holding and handling it.

face your fear. get someone to let you watch a mouse in a cage of some sort up close until you feel you are able and ready to take the next step and perhaps pet it or hold it in your hands. some pet stores may carry lab mice

When you have a fear or something, it creates a monster reality out of the thing you fear. The monster becomes bigger than life. It takes courage to face and experience fears. When you do this you can see that the reality of the fear is not what it appears to be. It's not bigger than a life nor is it a monster. The mouse is just a little harmless fury creature more scared of you than you of it. You will be over your fear. But it takes real courage to face fear and break through the barrier in your mind.

Go to a pet store that has many in a case that is secure. You can observe them in a controlled environment and desensitize you of them. Then as you grow comfortable around them you could touch one. As you grow in your comfort seeing them and touching one quickly you may grow the ability to hold one.

A common prescribed treatment for specific phobias is Exposure Therapy which is similar to what Trill said.
