I strongly believe 'indians' were the first to live in harmony on US soil (turtle island) This being the case , surely they are the only ones who can honestly say they are what are now known as 'Americans' ??
Surely everyone else are incomers. Even though they outnumber the "Native American Indians".

PS.. Liberals,
I do not live in America..Neither do i need a history lesson from someone who obviously has a 'huge' chip on his shoulder.
I am actually studying "Native American Teachings" Might i suggest you try some study in this area, you could learn some home truths. I did also state 'Turtle Island'. Historically native tribes people walked to "america", ' before' the lands broke apart.
I did not put this question in for people to 'attack' other people, and find your remarks very unwarranted and downright despicable. It is 'blood' that runs through ALL our veins. I think you have a lot to learn.
Good luck.

PPS.. JS
As you know it would be impossible to generalise on each individual tribe, as there are around 500 of them.
I have noted your comments, thank you, I am sorry if my question has upset you or any other tribal member.
I stand politically corrected re: teachings, when i am actually on a 'spiritual journey' with "Red Dawn",Hopi (holy man), I just thought i would put it in a way where people who are not up on the subject could understand, no offence was intended i can assure you. And i have the utmost respect for 'all' tribes. I hope you see this as you do not accept email or im.

first, earth is not "turtle island" to all of us, so please do not call it that. I am tsalagi, and we beleive that waterbeatle brought up the mud that made the earth. second, we did not come from asia or where ever yall say, creator put us here and we have been here since the beginning. we are not indians, we are natives. we are the true first "americans". everybody else is an immigrant. there are no native american teachings, saying this is putting us all into one group, when every native nation("tribe") has completely different beliefs. there is no "indian language" , every nation has its own language. like, you wil not here a tsalagi say tatanka or how. these are lakota words, and are in no other native language.
Wado for reading.

I don't look at the native people as the original Americans because they were not Americans, they were just the native people of the land. The original Americans were the first 'outsiders' to come here and call this place a country and start up the American government. Sure, the Native 'Americans' were here first but they lived by a completely different set of rules. They didn't know their land as a place called 'America', it was just home to them. They were not united under one government, they were all separate tribes. It would almost be live having tons of tiny little countries all over the land. The 'Americans' wiped them out and created America as we know it today. Unfortunately, we have to call them all 'Native Americans' since we can't name each individual tribe. We are forced to use the European word for this continent rather than whatever word the Natives had and I'm sure each tribe had a different idea of what to call the land they lived on.
Even though it's still acceptable to use the term 'Native American Indian', I always drop off the part about them being 'Indians' since Indians are from India. Just saying 'Native American' makes more sense to me. I guess the most 'PC' way of saying it would be 'the Native people of this area'

It is proven fact through archialogical evidence that the indigenous peoples of this continent were here over 10,000 years ago. And from the legends of the "people" not all came across the Bering Straight either. Some call us Native Americans, but that is just a name put on us by others. We are Tslagi (Cherokee), or Sioux, or Blackfoot, or Apache etc etc, but even these names are not what we call ourselves. If you could speak the language you would find that what we call ourselves in our native tongue comes out meaning "The People".
When Columbus "discovered" us by accident we were here waving to him from the shore.....

How narrow minded. Of course the "native Americans" are not the first Americans. The people who settled here, won the land, and called themselves Americans are the first Americans.
The natives had their own names. Why would they identify with the English name for their land?

As stated by others, This country was not called America, until the Italian poet Amerigus Vespucci, wrote about it. That means, the "incomers" named it, not the savages who were here before them, so they actually have no rights to even be called Americans. These alleged "native Americans", and their pathetic southern neighbors should realize this one reality. Americans were nation building, and there were certain peoples hindering that endeavor, so they were removed, we didnt STEAL this land, we TOOK it, thieves come in the night, we came in broad daylight, to the victor goes the spoils, possession is 9/10s of the law, etc, etc. Get over it, its not "yours" anymore to claim.

actually colombus was ambitious to prove that there was another route to INDIA by going in the western direction. the he landed in america and mistook it for india. so he called it INDIA and the people as INDIANS but actually these people kad travelled from russia to America through the extreme nort that is alaska and came and settled here and there and finally occupied the whole land. but as the years passed by due to the differnt conditions in america the later generations adapted to the climat and a few years before colombus found it the had changed a lot from the original russians.

I agree, the key word is "Native" so the Native American Indians are true Americans. The rest of us traveled here willingly/unwillingly.
