Here is the right way.... "Start" "Programs" "Accessories" "System tools" "System Information" " Software Invironment" and lastly "Running Tasks" a list of everything running will appear to the right. Envoking the task manager will only tell you what programs that the user has started, not what is running in the background.

ctrl + alt + del will only show the tasks running. There's a lot more going on, particularly if you're interested in seeing if viruses or other nasties are in your system.

Go to Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Information
Expand the Software Environment item
Examine all 16-bit modules loaded, 32-bit modules loaded, Running Tasks, Startup Programs, and Drivers

Much of it may appear meaningless, but that's a different story. At least now you see all the things running on your machine.

... unless it's a root kit
... or a clandestine keylogger
... or ...

Press ctr, alt, and del at the same time it will bring up the task manager. There will be two tabs one for applications running and one for processes running. The applications tab is fairly easy to understand, however if you are having PC problems there may be a process causing the issue. However, it is harder to decide which processes are not normal, if you stop the wrong one your computer may shut down. I normally just stop the ones that are generated by the user not the system.

ctrl+alt+del
then click the process tab!
voila! list of all your processes

if you dont want some of the processes to start on start-up,
then go to start=>run=>type in 'services.msc' then disable the program that you know you dont want and make sure you know what you are doing =P

if not then dont do it

type 'msconfig' in Run then click the last tab and unselect everything and apply and exit then restart.

it will make your computer load faster
