None of the above. The republican party is just putting on a show for now, they know the above mentioned are all losers. At the last minute they will come up with some virtual unknowns that look good at first sight, & they'll get accepted by the desperate cons without knowing much about them just because they're repubs. That's their devious plan. Just wait & see.

Giuliani - Huckabee

The Iraq war will hurt McCain worse than Giuliani. A VP like Huckabee is as close as religious conservatives will get in '08.

Romney's attempt at a complete makeover from liberal to conservative is threatening to turn him into a joke before he ever gets rolling.

Gingrich could be a formidable candidate right off the bat and appeal to religious conservatives, but would have problems appealing to moderate Republicans.

No one's even taken a serious look at Thompson. They're still thinking of the character he plays on TV. Until he decides to run for President and actually states some of his political positions, it's useless to consider him.

If I had to rank candidate's chances, it would be:

1. Giuliani
2. Gingrich
3. McCain

If carnage among the top candidates breaks out, Huckabee and Hagel (or even Thompson) could emerge as serious candidates.

How about Paul-Badnarik?

Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) opposes the War (unlike the Democrats, which would take their only strong issue), opposes the welfare state, and would like to get rid of the LBJ Education Department (yes, it is actually called that now), which Reagan promised to do. He was one of the first supporters of Reagan in 1976 (when he almost won the GOP nomination despite the opposition of most of the Congress). He ran against Bush Sr. and Dukakis and finished 3rd in 1988 on the Libertarian ticket (last Libertarian to finish 3rd, as of the present). He returned to Congress after about 20 years off in 1996 and has been following his oath to uphold the Constitution ever since.

Michael Badnarik is the 2004 Libertarian candidate who has endorsed Ron Paul for president. He'd make the perfect vice president because he's a pure Libertarian. He's also a Constitutional scholar, so maybe he could give Congress a class in the Constitution.

This ticket would be almost a certainty to beat any Democrat ticket. They're more anti-war and pro-civil liberties than the Democrats and they're also more Capitalist than anybody in either party. They'd win in a landslide.

Interesting choices...and some interesting responses from other people.

The problem with this is that it is too early to predict who will modify their platform to suit the special interest groups.

Some of those you mentioned are pro-choice and they might be willing to take up the anti-abortion position just to appease the religious fundamentalists.

Some of these guys are going easy on ILLEGAL aliens
(Personally, I am all for LEGAL aliens coming into this country) but might actually get tough on border issues.

You get the idea.

Anyway - my favorite candidate (Colin Powell) won't run...he's too smart to get caught up in the Beltway hoopla.

McCain - Giuliani is the best tandem.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will likely win.

McCain - Guliani! Although Bush Chaney for another 4 would be good!! I'm not joking either. I actually think it would make it easier to put closer on Iraq and help with other issues brought to attention in this current administration.
