My husband tinted my car windows. He said it will keep the car cooler in summer. Yeah right. Its still hot in there. I reckon he did it , because he thinks it LOOKS cooler. What are your opinions?

No, tinted windows are NOT a waste of money. It would be EVEN HOTTER in your car without them. The amount of heat blocked depends on the type of tint. They are rated based on their darkness, the amount of heat they block, and their reflectiveness.

By the way, every tint shop and car dealership KNOWS the maximum shade you can get legally in your area. Yes, there are some people that simply don't care and take the risk of tinting their front roll-down windows to a limo-tint. They can get a ticket for it, but they are in a mindset that I don't understand, that it's worth the risk.

Having your windows tinted in your house makes a huge difference, also. Our living room window in a previous home faced the afternoon sun. The a/c ran constantly on summer afternoons, and it still wasn't very cool. After we had the windows tinted, the electric bill dropped by 25% and it was a lot cooler in the living room.

Tinting does indeed make a difference, but I suggest keeping it legal.

They keep the car cooler and cut down on glare, making it easier to see things on the road (especially traffic lights and road signs).
Your husband is correct, its just still hot in there because it is a small enclosed space. Try getting one of those sun deflectors that sits in the windshield when youre parked. Since that part cant be tinted brings in quite a bit of heat.

I live in Arizona - and you NEED tinted glass. If not, it gets unbarebly hot and everything in the car fades within two years. That darn desert sun...

Tinted windows are dangerous because oncoming drivers can not see where the driver is looking.

Besides that, most people who have heavily tinted windows on the front are either drug dealers or gays who like to get sex in the front seat and people who walk past their car can't see them getting it..
