The city for making money and a small town for eating the money (retirement!)

2007-04-16 01:03:18 · answer #1 · answered by Tsepo 4 · 2 0

Im still young so i like the city life, but do go every now and again to the small towns just to get away from the constant rush of the city. I will keep on staying in the big city but as i get older i will start to think about beginning a family and then i will move to the smaller towns. I don't want to bring my children up in the big city, in the big city they wont have the opportunity to be children, children mature quicker in the big city.

Both. I love the city, particularly Cape Town, but it's nice to get out of the hustle and bustle. Although it's not rural we have a holiday house in Sandbaai close to Hermanus, and there's nothing better than going there once a month, relaxing, reading a book, visiting the book stores in town, inviting a few friends along and cooking great meals and serving it on the balcony while the sun sets. In the morning, going for a run on the beach with the dog and the cat (yes, I know, but our cat is strange like that - she thinks she's a dog), having a bit of swim, getting back and making pancakes for breakfast.

Like Tsepho In prefer the big city to work in because there are lots of opportunities.
Then when I retire I will go to a small town.

I grew up in Kimberley, stayed in Pretoria for 5 years and now stay in Ballito. I love the small town atmosphere, the more relaxed people and the fact that I can walk to work in 5 min.

The good thing for me is that it is 20 min away from Umhlanga and gateway, so whenever I feel like having people around me I can.

But there is nothing to compare with the lower stress levels and the quality of living of a small town.

In my short life, I've lived in rural areas (homeland - QwaQwa), small towns ( Plettenberg Bay, Welkom) small cities (George & Krugersdorp) and big cities (Joburg). I've lived not less than two in each. So, I have a fair knowledge of how people live there!

Given this experience, I prefer small cities. You get both worlds!

Both have good and bad - the pace of small town life is infinitely better but because there are so few people, everyone knows everyone's business.

In the city the pace is hectic so not always good but then you can live and let live much more easily.

Difficult one - a bit of both I think

if you ask rural / city life I would say city. Not inner city, on the outskirts in the more upmrket areas. I have always lived within walking distance of a petrol station & pharmacy & grocery store. It makes me feel safer!!

Woa!!!
I'd die in a small town (not tht anything is wrong with it), I prefer the city life. Hustle and bustle that makes one street wise, the glamour the partying...
