Life is a condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere on Earth. Properties common to these organisms – plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea and bacteria – are a carbon and water-based cellular form with complex organization and genetic information. They undergo metabolism, possess a capacity to grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce and, through natural selection, adapt to their environment in successive generations.
An entity with the above properties is considered to be a living organism, that is an organism that is alive hence can be called a life form. However, not every definition of life considers all of these properties to be essential. For example, the capacity for descent with modification is often taken as the only essential property of life. This definition notably includes viruses, which do not qualify under narrower definitions as they are acellular and do not metabolise. Broader definitions of life may also include theoretical non-carbon-based life and other alternative biology

You! Since you want the answer, then I answer to you. You are life!
You shape the future just by thinking about it. You create reality to a great extent. You are all that is.
You are life. (not specifically the body but the soul, the person listening inside of you)

I would refine the biological definition offered by "Dave n Kev".
A simple, independent molecule may be considered "alive" if by its nature it has the capacity for replicating itself in such a way that there may be mutations and hence is subject to natural selection and potential evolution. (A possible capacity for reproduction is the sole determinor of life - I say "possible" as sterility obviously would not negate a status of being alive). Thus, bacteria and viruses are alive (even though the latter relies on other living things in its reproduction process) whilst salt crystals are not as there is not enough scope for mutation in their self-replication. It is debatable as to whether an animal, for instance, is alive in an egg or womb as they would still be reliant for their continued existance on a parent.
Higher organisms separate their reproductive activity from other functions such as respiring and converting energy and may still be considered alive after their reproductive life until their essential functions collapse (the moment usually identified legally as "brain death" as this is an organism's main control centre). I suppose that this situation of being termed "alive" after potential reproduction might be justified in the direct impact of your existance on other life - the competition for resources, for instance, which is a determinor of natural selction. Concepts like will and consciousness cannot define life as they cannot be proven in plants or simpler animals.
Life on Earth is a curious phenomena that appears to have appeared simply because circumstances allowed. Metaphysical explanations of life such as are offered by religions are meaningless in that they do not refer to anything that can be analytically deconstructed or empirically falsified.

The one thing we all have no matter what our race, religion, wealth or education...it's the one thing that binds us as people and yet we as the human race still kill each other, hate each other and do awful things, and yet we are all born, breath, and die, yet we cloud our judgments by stupid things like race, skin colour and religion...How wrong are we?
