Sound energy density is dependent on the density of medium:
(∞ stands for proportional to)
D ∞ ρ

from ideal gas law,
pV = nRT = m/M * RT
or, pM = (m/V) * RT = ρ * rt
or ρ ∞ M
M = molecular weight.

Molecular weight of CO2 is 44 and of O2 is 32.

At night CO2 emmission is more, since plants cannot do photosynthesis. So at night sound is louder.

(p.s. if that's all crap, pls don't hate me)

During the evening background noise levels can be 5-10dB lower than in the day time. Any loud sound is therefore more recognisable and appears to be louder.

Evolution has led to your hearing becomes slightly more sensitive when you begin to tire and the other senses (particulary sight) become less sensitive.

Temperatures tend to be lower at night. Air gets denser as it gets colder. This makes it easier to transmit sound through it, thereby increasing the apparent volume and range. In Scotland on a cold night it is possible to hear a normal conversation that is being held over 750 meters away.
