People often refer to the Bible to backup their points about homosexuality. They say, 'It's in the bible that it's a sin, so it's bad.'

First, not everyone believes in the Bible. Second, most people that preach it are sinful in other ways, i.e. judging. So, according to the Bible, they are just as hell-bound as homosexuals are.

They want to sound powerful and holy, regardless of how offensive they are.

Yeah I was just speaking about this to a straight friend yesterday, I was telling her how Scarlett Johanson wont marry her bf untill all gay marrieges are legal and my friend was like dats stupid i can tell u many reasons why they shoudnt and i go OK SHOOT and all she could say was the whole thing about GOD and how in the eyes of God its a shameful sinful thing and the reason why people marry is to procreate and raise a family and all this stuff. I understand it would be funny when for eg two man go in a church to marry and the priest goes...I now pronounce you husband and husband...bit silly aye? But I had another point, Gays dont have to marry in church if that religion doesnt accept them..then why would they want to anyway? But legal marriage is just the LAW, some people that are non religious dont marry in a church anyway they just sign papers that they are married and are going to spend their lives together, and although I know that paper doesnt mean much, it kind of still does coz i think it makes the people fight more for their relationship and not give up eazy, the paper is just a peace of mind, a promise they made to eachother and signed that they will stay together and I think gays should have the right to do that! They are apart of life just as much as a straight person and they pay taxes and work for their countries so I dont know why they coudnt legally get married!

I think it is akin to a child saying, "Because my dad said so!" If, for example, the interpretations of a church or of the Bible are held as the ultimate & final word of God...therein lies one's "authority". Been there, done that myself. Now, I just tell people that according to Leviticus, if you have a tattoo, eat shellfish or pork or wear cotton/wool blend, you are just as much as an "abomination" to God (according to the Holiness Codes) as a person who is a homosexual. You can't pick & choose...either you follow ALL the rules or you don't!

We must deal with the 4X4 boards in our own eyes before dealing with the splinters in someone else's eyes...

Yes you are right. Its really funny cause they usually use leviticus as their basis for their condemnation. But the fact about that particular book is that it is Gods pact with the Jews. Not only that, but when the jews worshipped the false idol (golden calf) that broke the pact with God and then Moses went to the mount for the 10 commandments. So,,,, the leviticus argument is a moot point anyway.

I agree with you all the way. Like one of previous answers said. "because my dad says so." Just from the crap I've gotten from my own family. They use the bible on to the extent that it backs up their argument, and they choose to ignore the rest. If there is an aspect that they don't particularly like, it is ignored, but, because I'm gay, I'm going to hell. Never mind the tattoos I have on me which, according to scripture is another abomination. They actually have the nerve to tell me that having tattoos won't send me to hell, but being gay will. It's gotten to the point that I shun religion in all aspects.

Because they can't think of anything better to say about it. It's the most intelligent argument they can come up with. And they don't even need to justify it - it just is.

My favourite is how they conveniently pick & choose the bits they like, and discard the rest that would apply to them too.

Good question - I'm interested to see if any of the bible-bashers bother to answer this one...

It's time for the religious right political activists to at least pretend to follow the 10 Commandments. One of them has something to say about lying and another has something to say about stealing.

When people have nowhere else to turn, they'll turn to their religion.

Homosexuality has been accepted for thousands of years. It was common practice in the Greek and Roman times. Countless Roman emperors were bisexual.

But times have changed.

I agree kedar...Ive always felt like even though these people feel its "sin" that they should be looking in their own back yard ...I'm sure I could help them analyze their lives and find lots of "sins"...I'm a big hater of double standards...

people who are religious and oppose homosexuality hide behind their deity because they know that they have no real reasons to oppose two men/two women being together.
