You are only going to sleep in the room anyway so go for a cheaper place in the middle of the strip like The Aladdin or The Imperial Palace. Circus Circus was bad it was full of screaming kids and the Riviera was too far down at the end of the strip

The lowest-priced hotels on the Strip, in least-to-most-tacky order are: Stratosphere, Sahara, Imperial Palace, Tropicana, Riviera. I wouldn't stay at the Casino Royale unless you have a high tolerance for shabbiness, although the location is excellent. I would recommend Downtown, but it sounds like you're new to Vegas, so I assume you'll want to spend your time on the Strip where all the best sightseeing and activities are. I would try any of the following:
Imperial Palace: you can get an upgraded room (spa suite) for the same price as a "standard" room anywhere else. Plus the location is great - right in the middle of the strip.
Tropicana: same reason - we got the upgraded room (spa suite) for a very good price (cheaper than Imperial Palace). Only drawback to this hotel is the location... it's at one end of the strip, so you'll have to rely on the Monorail or your feet to get to other places.
My husband and I love the spa suites, they're always located on "higher" level floors with a nice view. Plus it's wonderful to have it after all that walking!

I was just there about a week ago and stayed at the MGM Grand!!! It is great.. It is on a fun side of the strip. You can easyly get to other hotels by the monorail and the prices are reasonable. I would go back there any time!!
