When you use them as mirrors you tend to put in the things that you want reflected back at you. If you see them, instead, as vessels to fill , you are more honestly motivated to pour in the real things.

that no matter how much i try, i will never be like them? is that the surprise you are pertaining to?
but its a good thing to think about though. sometimes i do try to compare my weak and strong points to others then gauge what i am really made up. but surely i know i am an unique person. and proud of whatever i have

so which you would be able to tell while absolutely everyone seems to be reflecting self love and wisdom, and carry you as a 'great being' all from a seem from their eyes? i will proceed to grant extra credibility to their words and movements over the seems they supply me or staring into their eyes. And what does seeing God in them have something to do with respecting yet another person? The kindest component you're able to do to a distinctive person is to handle them with dignity and admire. Or tailoring what you do for them in accordance to what they want.

yes, it is normal to see ourselves through the eyes of the others, in fact that's what we do all our lives. no matter how independent we pretend to be, we always measure our behaviour, looks, personality, etc. only through the eyes of the people around us.
