No, I think that is fantasy. I am fairly certain, that dreams are nothing more than a story (or a movie) being played out and written by your subconscious.
You know that you can control your dreams though with training. Think about apples all day, and teach yourself to ask, "Am I dreaming?" Ask that everytime you see an apple, and even do it during the day by looking at apples throughout the day. Eventually, when you dream you will see an apple, and ask yourself if you are dreaming... at that point the answer will be, "Yes, holy... I am dreaming." Then if you stay asleep, you can control your dream, and actually do things that you want to do... like fly, etc.

I don't really believe in all that dream symbolism like tornado=confusion or whatever. I think the dreams with weird objects and weird things happening are usually just your mind wanting to be goofy while it's asleep. I mean, earlier I took a nap and dreamed that a guy somehow got turned into fingernail polish. There's NO possible way this can mean anything, in my mind.
However, you also dream about stuff that's on your mind...what you're afraid of, what you want to happen, what's been in your environment for a long time. (I still dream about school, where I haven't been in 10 years. I still dream about one of my exes, who I can't stand now and haven't seen for almost that long. It's just that those things got so imprinted on my mind that they pop up now and then.) In dreams like these, you can usually tell what they mean by how they make you feel. I was feeling somewhat hopeless about my relationship recently, and all I seemed to be able to dream about was my guy leaving me, and stuff like that. Or if you were to dream that you were chasing your brother through a building but could never find him, it might mean that you're afraid you don't know him as well as you think you do, or that you think he's distancing himself from you, or that you want to cling to him even though he won't appreciate it. Usually the right meaning is pretty apparent, if you think about it a bit.

I believe dreams are your subconscious thoughts trying to work out solutions to your everyday problems in a dream like state. The hardest part is understanding where the correlations are. What helped me was to pick up a dream interpretation book. The challenge is finding the right one for you that makes the most sense. Some of them can get way too out there and confuse you even more. Look up Dream Interpretation on the internet and it will give you a ton of resources to choose from.

Yes, the inventor of the Singer sewing machine was stuck on the problem of how to get the string though the fabric on both sides using his machine. Then,he had a dream where he was being chased by some kind of wild island natives. Just before he was killed. he saw the spear tip and it had a hole in the spear head.
That dream gave him the solution.
There's another one where the discoverer of Benzene had a dream of a snake eating it's tail. After he woke up. He realized Benzene is a ring shaped molecule.
There are lots of cases like that.

You could look at it that way. Not in the Freudian way at all though. I believe that what was on your mind before you went to bed or that day subconsciously manifests in your dreams. I think people could really realize a lot about themselves if they analyzed their dreams. You could really figure out what is going on in your mind.

if something is on your mind then it usually tends to play out in your dreams. I think its just a mixture of anxiety depending on your dream.
