There's a number of stuff you can do:
-Plan out a schedule and FOLLOW IT!!!
If you have other stuff to do, make sure that you leave time for studying and everything else. If you follow your schedule, reward yourself with something (30min./1 hour of TV/Internet, etc.)
This is kinda hard... it takes a lot of determination
-If some of your friends have the same assignment, form a study group and have a little study party... complete with snacks, candy, and of course... notes and books
-If you think that you're never going to get anything done, you WON'T because you're too busy thinking that you won't get done... make sense??? : )
-Sometimes your mind/brain gets tired of something after a certain time. Have all your subjects out in front of you so when you get tired of one, you can immediately switch to the next. Make sure you get everything done and don't spend any of your time doing stuff that you don't need to do! Spend at least 15-20 minutes before switching... unless you finish it before then.
You can also go for a walk (if the weather's nice) and get a breath of fresh air... this will really help...
-FOOD... It ALWAYS works for me. Have some snacks next to you (I know that "experts" say it's bad to eat and read at the same time, but you know what? It works...) and munch on while you diligently study... just make sure you don't eat too much so you don't fill yourself up on snacks!!! : )
I like to go to Panera and sit on their couches and study... with a cup of coffee, a cookie...
-Find a place AWAY from distractions. If your room has a TV, computer, Ipod (or any other music device), etc. LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!
All these things will prevent you from studying... unless you have to Google something... which is really helpful with assignments. Just be sure not to be like, "oh let me check my e-mail for a second and then I'll go back to studying" because you'll really never get done. Just say, "I'll check my e-mail when I'm DONE studying for at least a couple hours and I'll stay on the Internet for ONLY 10-15 minutes... if you can even afford that much time!
-If you have a lot of reading, take the book wherever you go. You never know when you'll have the chance to read.
The basic thing is TIME-MANAGEMENT. When you have a couple minutes before school or any other time, STUDY!!!
TIME is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!
FIND YOUR ELEMENT... haha... this is funny, but seriously, find where you're comfortable (with no distractions) and be totally enveloped with your work...
POST-ITs really help too. Write down the due date on the Post-It and organize your work by what you need to get done first. DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
If you're in high school, this will also help for college applications and stuff like that... as well as in LIFE
Hope this helps and Good Luck!!!

A couple things
I think it's important to be able to study in a comfortable environment..... away from all distractions including people, noise and commotion..... If you need some noise in the background, I think music without lyrics would be best not to distract.....
It's also important to reward yourself when you do study or complete a project..... for ex 15 min of TV for every couple hours you work.... or a walk around the block for each project you finish.... you need to pat yourself on the back when you do well.... this will make these tasks seem a little less "painful" (goals, starting small, will help you to feel better about the process.... )
Keeping a positive attitude makes a huge difference as well...... tell yourself you can and will study and do well. By telling yourself you "can't" or "won't" be able to study sets up a self fulfilling prophecy... because you end up doubting yourself, getting discouraged and giving up.
If it would help, maybe you could get your parent or guardian to help you study or practice your skills.... this will make the experience a little more enjoyable too.... make a game out of your work, it will make learning a lot more fun
Good luck..... you will be happy later on that you applied yourself!

I have that problem...I forget to study then realize I have a test coming up in a week and I know nothing.
The way I do it, it made me go from knowing nothing about a certain topic to getting 94% on something that the average class score was 70-ish%.
First, to get the reading done: split it chapter by chapter. Tell yourself that if you get five chapters done by a certain time, then you can do something you enjoy, like watching a TV programme. Just make sure you don't read one chapter then "treat yourself" to a half hour programme.
With the studying it's harder because you have to make yourself understand rather than just get through it all.
If you can, get a textbook on the subject you're studying but I know they can be stupid prices so if you can't, go through your exercise book. Miss out all the exercises and find notes, and copy them out in the simplest way you can and highlight important bits. Read them over and colour co-ordinate different subjects.
If you have an mp3 player, read out your notes into a microphone and put it into your player. You might feel a bit stupid hearing yourself talking about physics or whatever it is, but it does help.
Also, write certain facts and formulas you have to remember out again and again, or type them out a lot. Not the most interesting thing but it gets it done.
Finally, write out questions/tests for yourself on things that you aren't sure about, and try them until you can get them all right.

PLEASE READ
hey i think i can help you!!
self motivation will be a good key for you to open the door to study.what you have to do is take an A4 paper and write your name, target and a motivating quote like 'i can,i will,i am the great'and stick it at some place where you frequently look at(it may be your study table or even you can fix it in a sheet of cardboard and place it above your television or computer.by doing so, whenever you look at that paper you would get motivated and it may drive you to your books.
now what you can do i that take the subject which you like the most first.then take each and every lesson and have a rush up.once you finish reading a lesson, take a marker and mark the impoortant lines or you can even take notes.
one very important thing is that whenever you feel like playing , dont come to study.when you feel bored and you have nothing to do,take your books and read each loudly and imagine that you are your teacher.when you read things aloud they will get imprinted in your mind.
you can take some important laws or formulae and write them in a piece of chart or paper and stick it in your room so that whenever you get into your room you will feel like taking your book.
TIPS FOR ELEVENTH HOUR PREPARATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE READ::::::::::
reading line by line is impossible.so take a lesson, write a list of the possible questions.have an analysis of what you knowe and what you dont know.first give importance to essays as they fetch you more marks easily.then come to objective type answers as they are very easy to learn .then go into the short answers and others.
when you plan your schedule dont fix the time for each subject.instead fix that you finish these many chapters today.without finishing them dont go to bed.
one more thing--dont get tensed.be cool ,have faith in you.be confident.
say this aloud three times-------your confidence level wiil boost up now:
i am a confident person
i am an energetic person
i am an achiever
i can i will
I AM THE WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL THE BEST DEAR DO YOUR BEST

I have this same problem too. i'm so behind and i always feel like i'll never catch up but the best advice i can give you is to go to your school library and study there. i find that whenever i try to study at home, i always get distracted. whether it's with the tv(because i have to have the tv on -it's like a friend) or with other duties. this works for me the best. or if you can't study at the library try studying with a buddy at home with no tv or radio. best of luck!!

Well, I used to have that same problem. I would read the text book, get frustrated, and say that I won't be able to finish in time. I was normally getting C's or D's and one or two F's and it made it harder for me to get confidence in myself.
Once my slate was wiped clean, I started out with easier work and I got it done. Then I said to myself, "I will not go without doing my work and, no matter what, it will be turned in on time." So, I get my work, sit in a chair that feels comfortable enough for me, turn on the T.V. to a low volume and listen but not watch, and I do my best to focus without ever getting up until I am done. Now, I have 5 A's and 1 D out of my six classes. With U.S. History, I'm up to 115.52% and I have a 112.16% in World History.
Basicly, what I'm trying to say is that you need to bear down and put all of your effort into your work. The sooner you do so, the better it will be for your future.

You have to set some goals and rewards. In other words, you must read a certain amount (goal) before you can do something you like (reward).
Example, you must read 4 chapters before you can watch your favorite show on TV.
