My son was born almost 7 years ago at 31 weeks (starting with pre term labor at 28 weeks and then again at 29 weeks after the medication to stop the contractions wore off). He was born at 4 pounds, 3 ounces and 18 inches long. He spent a month in the hospital with a few issues, but now he's completely healthy (aside from the asthma he inherited from my husband). Now that I'm pregnant again, the doctor doesn't think I can make it full term and has a goal of 32 weeks. Each week that you can get closer to your due date is better for the baby. However, 31 weeks has a very good chance of survival. He or she may have to stay in the NICU for a little while, but there are very little lasting effects at that gestational age. Good luck to you.

If all other factors are normal, with modern medicine and modern technology, there is a good chance your child would survive. Your doctor should be able to fill you in with both the risk factors and chances of a healthy baby.
My cousin had her baby at 6 1/2 months 950 gm, and her little girl is now six and doing fine. My brother's wife had a full term, 11 pound baby that had to go onto a ventilator in infant intensive care nursery for breathing problems. He is fine now and starting school next year.
So I hope that yours is born healthy and you are a very happy and healthy family.

At 31 weeks of gestation your baby has a pretty good chance of surviving although he/she may be in NICU for a few weeks to be sure that everything is developed and no other problems are going to keep your baby from growing fully. If you can keep the baby in longer though it would be much recommended.

Both of my kids were born at 32 weeks because I have a heart problem that doesn't go well with pregnancy. They were both normal and very healthy babies. Towards the end the baby only gains weight anyway. Try to rest as much as possible and try to stay off of your feet. That will help you carry a little longer. The baby should be okay if it's born now. Mine were, and I know other people who delivered early and the babies were perfectly ok. Don't stress and all will be fine! Congratulations!

You are healthy, your baby is healthy. If you unfortunately had to give birth before your due date, 31 weeks is not so bad. However ,you will have the extra worry that comes with premature babies. Lung development mainly. Hospitals, Nicu's are well equiped, well staffed, and your litle bundle will be well cared for. Your baby will survive and thrive and know it's loved!

Mine was born much earlier than that (22-23 weeks) and she is a healthy, happy 4 month old now! We spent quite a while in the NICU though. Is there something wrong? If you're considering trying to induce your own labor please don't! Even though baby would most likely be fine, every day he/she spends inside you counts! And you really don't want to spend your baby's first weeks in the hospital. Good luck to you!

the chances are good but do not push it because the baby will come when he/she is ready i had my son at 37 weeks and he weighted 8 and a half pounds. its best to wait as long as you can if possible because sometimes the babies lungs aren't fully developed but i think you will be fine good luck and congats

very good. most babies are born at 38-40 weeks so you are only about 2 months away. lungs are developed at 6 mths, so your baby can be fine. do what your doctor says, and take care of yourself. good luck!
