Yes, when I was young I was full of myself. I'd like to say I am better now, but who can trust the mirror.
Do you find your Promethean avatar self-damning on this point?

I accepted a long time ago that I would never know it all.
I was taught when young that when somebody was trying to tell me something that I should listen carefully. For the simple reason that no matter how much of an idiot I might think they are they will know something that I do not know.
It took me quite a few more years to learn the methods of careful listening.
I guess the answer to your question, both parts would be no then.
I have been unpleasantly surprised sometimes by the things that I have learned about what I thought I knew. That is not quite what you asked.

I'm a lot more surprised when I actually do know something. And I think I'm a good listener as long as someone is not giving me traveling directions. That goes in one ear and out the other. Maps are my friends.
I may be caught up in myself but not enough so that it interferes with what others have to say.

Not so far, but I'll let you know when something I don't know comes up. Heh heh heh.
I know I don't know squat, but that just makes it more fun to keep learning.
As to listening, I do my best. My attention wanders because I have wandering attention - as in AD/HD. It can be very off-putting for people when they're talking to me as my eyes are always darting all over the place, and I'm always interrupting them to say "did you hear that?" But those who know me well seem to cope - mostly by just doggedly slogging on!
I've also learned that it's not a failing to say "wait, I didn't get that last bit, please go over it again."

Pleasantly surprised , yes, many times .But ,I make it a point to hide my surprise . Surprise gives your weaker section away .It gives a real high to observe when other people fumble while expecting that you ought to get surprised and you are not .
When you are surprised , make corrections silently . Do not let the world know of it .

the older I get the more I know I don't know. And it is actually a relief to not have to know. Yet, I am wise enough to know that I can figure it out how to search for knowledge.
I don't need to know it all. And it is ok that other people know things that I don't know.
Yes. I Listen. And one of the biggest things I have learned in my life is that everything that goes through my brain doesn't have to come out of my mouth

great question ! the older U get, the more You realize You don't know. If we were honest with ourselves, we couldn't possibly know 1/ trillionth of 1/100,000,000 %. And although I generally like to listen to others, I cut it off when I realize they are not home. Or they are sleep walking.

Usually, at first I am unpleasantly surprised.
Then I realize that this is what helps me grow more than anything else.

I think I'm aware of how I don't listen enough, but I think it's pretty hard to do. I do the best I can.

Yes, I see myself as knowingly stupid..only when one comes to this realization can one evolve and discover..there are also many things I don't know that I don't know, I seek to discover as much as I can, it's entirely personal though.
