"OH HELL YA!"
We used to throw our bike's on the lawn, run into the house screaming, "Dad & mom, ice cream trucks coming! Can we get one?" Mom would say," Alright go get my purse then."
(Back in those days mom's purses just as big as a small size suit case!)
We all go running out as fast as our feet could take us, to stand in line. Dirty faces and all, telling one another, just which kind of ice cream we were getting! Big ones to, not like todays so small and twice as much!
Yes, sure were the good old days.

Yes I do miss the days when I was a kid and my brother, sisters and the kids on my court would be happy to hear an ice cream man coming and we would all run to buy a ice cream from it. What made us even more excited was when this huge ice cream truck would come in the evening and sell frosties and even Banana splits. That was a real treat. We got so excited.

The ice cream truck still comes by in my neighborhood. However, the ice cream just isn't as good as my memory seems to remember it to be. Some of the flavors that were sold thirty years ago are no longer offered, such a the "Malted Shakes", "Sidewalk Sundays" and "Root Beer Floats" to name a few. Everything they're selling in the truck, I can easily get at the nearby market. It's just not SPECIAL anymore.

Talk of remembering when. It seems that most ice creame trucks today have become like 7-11's. They are fast, convenient and with little (maybe one or two items) of interest. The only one worth it's salt is Mister Softy, the Rolls Royce of ice creame trucks. so I can really relate to your story. And here are two anecdotal stories I hope you enjoy; When I was young my family was very very poor. Ice creame was a real and rear treat (only for special occasions.) So, to persuade us to curtail our desire for ice creame, my mom told us that whenever the ice creame truck played music, they were letting everybody know they were "Out of Ice Creame." LOL. It took years to catch on to that little scam.
One time my cousin was doing yard work for my mom. He was about 8 ( this happened 30 years ago.) So since he was such a good boy she gave him $.50 for ice creame. He cam back all dejected. My mom asked what was wrong? He said you can't buy ice creame for $.50 Aunt L, you need at least a dollar. She felt mortified. She had meant to do well by him, but oh well. She asked him so what did you get, he said a few pieces of gum. The same gum that cost him $.50 had cost me as a child three to five cents.

OOOhh those red, white and blue Popsicles? those were my Favorite. Our Ice cream man, were teenagers on these bikes that had huge what looked like deep freezes on their bikes and they'd ring there little bells. Those are no longer around, and it seems the day of the Ice cream truck are over, at least in where I live, now it's ice cream stands, where there are a lot of tourists :( but I indulged last summer and had this tasty treat from my childhood. nostalgic.

This gives rise to the question: Where exactly did that truck come from? Maybe the ones in your neighborhoods had identifiable stores they were connected to, or the people were independent vendors. But in my memory, I don't know exactly where our truck's "trip," "escapade," or "magical mystery tour" could have originated. I'm just wondering where exactly you park that sucker at night, and who has the guts to get it serviced, tires rotated, etc. And if distance travel is required, do they attempt a highway? ... Anyhow.

unfortunately, when i was a little kid, i was scared of the ice-cream man.
my mom told me that he don't actually sell ice-cream. he just try to get the attention to kidnap kids.
i guess its one of my mom good white lies so that i don't go running buying and eating ice-cream everyday.
