I like to reinstall Windows every now and then to keep it running great, but I'm guessing you wont want to do that.

I also assume you mean software, not tune up the hardware like a car, that would just break stuff.

- Run a disk defragmenter frequently, Windows comes with one (Start > Programs > Acessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmentor)

- Before you do that however it's a good idea to remember any unnecessairy temporary files from you computer, internet histories, cache, especially your recycle bin and stuff like that. Windows also has one of (Start > Programs > Acessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup) but I prefer a program called CCleaner, much better it'll automate all this for you and it's free.

- Get rid of any old programs you don't use anymore (Start > Settings > Conrol Panel > Add/Remove programs), and stop unnecessairy programs from starting when you don't need them. There's probably an option in the program, CCleaner lets you see what starts up with your computer, and there's other ways I can't remember right now.

- If you feel confident enough try to clean up the registry, with the assistance of a program of course, there's lots out there but I know CCleaner does it (I'm not being paid by them I sware).

- I belive some people suggest removing old drivers and stuff like that, but I've never done it. I don't know if there's stuff that will do it for you, it's a very bad idea to poke around with stuff like that without knowing exactly what everything is.

- If you not already, be sure to get some anti-virus or anti-spyware software. If you got a virus you don't know about it could be slowing you down. Some good free ones are AVG, Spybot, and Adaware, and I belive they should all be free.
