I absolutely loved the books, but lets face it the third and fourth movies just weren't as good as the first two. They simplify the story too much. I've heard that they are editing out even more of the fifth movie because it's too long. I'd rather watch a complete 3 hour movie than a simplified summary of 1,5 hours. I know they can't possibly fit in every detail, but they leave out some relevant information in my opinion.

It was more enjoyable to read the book because it gives you time to really think about the fantasies that enters your mind when you picture the things that the book describes.
I enjoyed the movies except for the Goblet of Fire but the books are still better because I probably have too many expectations already but I think those who did not read the book will like the movies. I will test this theory that's why I still have not read the Order of the Phoenix and watch the movie first.

People are afraid of the "magic" theme. Some people think that you shouldn't read anything that has anything to do with "magic". I disagree and really enjoy the books and movies. I am also a Christian, so please don't generalize about this being "just" Christians. It's about people's moral choices in some cases, not all. They have the right to not read the literature. Just as those of us who enjoy Harry Potter have the right to read and enjoy the movies.

I enjoyed the books but the movies were so-so. I felt things moved too quickly in the movies and important stuff/characters were left out (QWC anyone?). Also some of the characters come across totally differently, Dumbledore especially, as well as the plot being chopped and changed: things happened in the movie that didnt even happen in the book and vice-versa! Maybe Im too much of a purist...

Having never read the books, the films didn't seem very interesting to me. A lot of stuff going on, like quidditch and classes, but it was hard to follow the actual story. Had I read the books, I think it would be neat to see the books come to life on the screen.

I've never seen any of the movies, or read any of the books.
The reason being... personal preferance, but don't take it personally, I'm sure there are some books that I've read and movies that I've seen that others (possibly even you) would not like, or have not seen/read, simply because it's not your cup o' tea.

I like them but I hear that the reason parents may not like it is due to the witchcraft theme. These parents are usually Christians, thats another factor. I think Ron's swearing may not help. Preference is another reason. I think people just don't give it a chance too. Hope this helps.

I don't find it to be a very original story. It's the same story told over and over again with new characters and different places.
Boy gets good news. Boy is happy. Boy gets bad news. Boy reacts. Boy makes everything better. Boy is deemed hero.
... Yawn.
