Yes. Let's not forget that Kenya's qualification for the Super 6 in 2003 came from one win against Sri Lanka, a forfeit against New Zealand and wins against Canada and Bangladesh (then a poor team). They only beat Zimbabwe in the Super 6, and because the points carried over from the SL and NZ matches, they got to the semi-finals.
With one more run against Zimbabwe, Ireland would have done similar to Kenya here except for a forfeit on home soil. But becuase of the changed system, it's much harder to make it to the semi-finals by luck.
Plus we have seen Bangladesh beat India and the #1 ranked South Africa. For the first time at international level we have seen four wickets in four balls and six sixes in six balls.
And on the bad side, we have seen the tragic (but still surprising) death of Bob Woolmer.

If you are talking about early ouster of India and Pakistan from the world cup, as far as ouster of 2 teams in the initial stage has never happened in world cup. However, once Kenya have most surprisingly came to semi final. Atleast this time such a surprise has not taken place.

Yes ! I agree with you,
4 balls 4 wickets, 6 balls 6 sixes wow, Bangladesh beating Indians & S/Affricans, Ireland beating Paks & Bob's death after that. India one of the favourites got out of the game very early along with great Pakistani team.
More supprices to come, check out todays match. World champions taking over the Lions.
