i am stuck on some homework i have can any body plz help its urgent?

Farmer Giles has a rectangular pigsty of length 9 metres and width 5 metres. He wants to erect a circular goat pen with the same area as the pigsty. Work out the radius of the goat pen. Give your answer in metres to one decimal place.

first work out the AREA of the pigsty which is 9 x 5 which is 45 square metres
this means the area of the pigsty is 45 square metres
so using the formula for the area of a circle pi r squared

pi = 3.14

So 45 / 3.14 = r squared
=14.3312....
r= square root of 14.3312
=3.78565...
=3.8 to one decimal place (as required)

Okay. First, find the area of the pigsty. 45 square meters. So you know that's the area of the goat pen, too. Substitute that into the formula for the area of a circle, solve for the radius, and your answer will be 3.8 meters. (rounded to the nearest tenth)

hey we just did this in maths a few weeks back!!
firstly you want the area of the pigsty

length x width = area
9 x 5 = 45

this is the area of the circle too, so you put it in the equation for the area

pi x radius² = circumference
pi x r² = 45

which means that

45 ÷ pi = r²

then the answer has to be

squareroot (45 ÷ pi) = r

and i dont have a scientific calcuator handy, but you could work it out from that.

= 9 x 5 = 45 m²

So now we need to work out Diameter or radius of a circle of Area = 45m²

Area of Circle = πr²

45 = πr²

so r² = 45/π

r² = 45/3.14
= 14.32

so r = √14.32

= 3.78 m
