a tri-level is a basement, main floor and second story.
A split-level home is a style of house in which the floor level of one part of the house is about half way between a floor and its ceiling of the other part of the house

There is different tri-level or split level homes. When you walk into the home you walk in the first floor. This first floor typically will have a living room, dining room and kitchen. This first floor will have a slab, crawl or basement foundation. The split-level is a two story with the lower level exposed in the front or rear. The upper level of the split will have baths and bedrooms. The lower level will have a family room, bedrooms and baths. The lower level can be unfinished as well. The lower level is not included in the Gross Living Area. This lower level is considered a below grade finish and is assessed at a lower scale.
Hope this helps.

it is on a hillside so it has a porch going up to a loungeroom then a 3 step rise to the main floorheight and also has an additional backroom which is also three steps lower. i guess they are kinda half floors @latj i popped my knee out for thew first time yesterday i was rolling on the floor in pain for 5 minutes. couple this with toe and arch pains and i'm sure it must have been written in my horoscope.

Anything with 3 livable floors of space. This may be a basement and two above ground floors, or it may be all three levels above ground.

My old house used to be split level and it was awesome, I loved it. Basically, when you walked up the stairs to the front door, you would walk into the entryway and you could see both the bottom floor and the top floor from where you were standing. The entry foyer was the middle point.

trilevel means that one side is two-story (upstairs and downstairs not counting basement) and the other side just has one story, on a level in between the two levels on the other side.
