I think you mistakenly partition your hard drive, maybe you have created a basic disk with 10gig partition.

And the 30 gig partition was not been activated to extended partition.

if you did use DOS then run again FDISK then you will see the 30gig left as inactive.

or if you did do it in windows then go to Computer Management then click Disk Management you'll see the inactive drive. just click the inactive drive then follow the Disk Management Wizard..

what make of computer is it?
how did you format your computer?
was it through windows?
or was it through DOS (disk operating system)
