Certain drivers are provided by Windows XP. But only a few. Folllow these steps:-

1. Attach ur camera in the PC (in the USB port)

2. You will get a notice that Windows has found new hardware. There the name of ur webcam must be written alongwith the brand name like I have CIF USB Camera. Then remove ur camera.

3. Take note of that name and go to http://www.driverguide.com. Register there for free(compulsory) and then search for the driver for u camera with that name u got.

4. Download and install ur driver. U may need to restart ur PC after installing the driver afterwhich u can attach ur camera.

Good Luck!!!

If the cam is plug-and-play, your software might recognize it and auto-install the appropriate drivers. Also, you may want to allow your software to use generic drivers and see if this works.

Even if the brand doesn't show on the camera, you might be able to do a web search in the model number or any other identifying mark. Good luck.

All drivers are accessible through the web. Go to the homepage of the company who makes it and find a support or download section. you'll need to look at the cam and find out what model it is. Sometimes its easy to look on the site and tell what model it is from its appearance. They will be free.

I am sorry to say that the webcam you brought wont work without the installation software to install the drivers so that your webcam can work and the computer can recognise what type of webcam it is and what USB port it is plugged in to,
I am surprised that the webcam did not came with any installation software, for the webcam on its own is useless and will only serve as a paperweight.
always check the contents is complete with the necessary software so that you have everything for a successful installation. good luck.

Not without having the driver.

There should be some kind of marking on it, either under the base or on the back that should have some numbers you can google to figure out what brand it is.

Try AMCAP.

http://amcap.en.softonic.com/

Many unbranded webcams work with AMCAP. I have a cheapie webcam that came w/ an AMCAP software.

Hope this helps.
