It's not too uncommon for coaches to want their athletes to do a variety of different races. Maybe you'll find hat you're better at the mile (by some far chance) and you'll really like it. Besides, since your team is so small, I think that it would be fair for you to take the mile once or twice so that the other girls have a chance to run the shorter distances as well. Do it for the team, and if you really can't, or he really has something against you, take it to the school,... quit, or move.

I think you should run it and if you suck then hey, you suck and it's not your problem. Your coach probably doesn't hate you, he might just want to push you to challenge yourself and encourage you not to give up.
It's one mile. Who cares if you walk it or run it? Just show up, travel a mile and that will be the end of it. Afterwards tell your coach that you're not going to do it again. If you scratch it he will more likely only get harder on you because you didn't even try. Just do it, it's not going to kill you and it doesn't matter what time you get, it's not the olympics. Your coach is trying to build your character. If you quit, what do you think he's going to think of you then?

Well if it was up to me I wouldn't do anything I don't want to do, so I would scratch it out, but if you don't have a choice but to do it then just do your best think of it as practice to become a better track runner and don't pay any attention to how mean the coach is.

it's not relly problem per se... it's his job to push you, and he has to have someone to run the mile. It's not exactly like there are people jumping up and down with their hands raised to run the mile... stop being such a crybaby and 'Just Do It'

Unless there is a health issue, your coach is within his rights to enter you. It is up to you whether you give you all.
