....a spunky, precocious screen presence...a free-spirit...a beautiful woman, whose beauty pegs much closer to the description of 'cute'...and a very under-appreciated & underrated actress (except for the select few of us, of course, who relished each and every performance of hers).
Susan George stands out most clearly in my mind, during the bygone drive-in theatre days of the early '70's, in genre-type films such as "Tintorera", "Fright" and "Die Screaming, Marianne". You'd never think, being the type of person she was, that Susan and director Sam Peckinpah would bear any sort of synonymous association; but after pairing off with Dustin Hoffman in the no-holds-barred (for the time) maniacally-vengeance driven 1971 film, "Straw Dogs", I am hard-pressed to think of any other actress to fit the bill.
After "Dogs", you'd never really know where she would show up next; switching channels on NBC's ('70's staple) Movie of the Week, I happened upon the 1973 T.V. musical production of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", starring Kirk Douglas, and...was that?...Wow!!...was THAT Susan George???
For a long period of time, mid-to-late '70's, Susan seemed to vanish from the cinematic radar (I suspect this may be the time period you spoke of, whereby her career was stagnant, as the result of her marriage). Then, in the early '80's, she apparently signed on with Cannon Films, making two stand-out genre films, first portraying the target in an obsessive, supernaturally-driven love triangle, in "The House Where Evil Dwells", and then, starring in the first-most film that started the '80's 'ninja' film craze, "Enter the Ninja".
However, if there was ever a performance by Susan, that stands out most prominantly in my mind, it would have to be the tense, dynamic, high-octane, high pursuit road actioner, "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry", pairing up with actors Peter Fonda and Adam Roarke; the character she played seemed an almost exaggerated extension to her vibrant, precocious and free-spirited persona, and the chemistry between her performance, and that of Peter Fonda, was sheer dynamite. Between the both of them, they had to have had one hell of a good time, making this film!!!
An extraordinary talented actress...an exceptionall beautiful woman...a vibrant, free-spirited personality....an....uh....umm...excuse me, while I take a break, and run a double feature of "Straw Dogs" and "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry"....can't resist....gotta do it!!!!..........

Look her up on the Internet. I remember her, but I don't remember her being a movie star. She was in a few movies, but she's disappeared. She was in some movie about running from the law in a souped-up car, wasn't she? She's was sort of the English version of Goldie Hawn during the late 60s.
