Come to work, to work. Don't bother with the other people except as the job and courtsy may require.
Be pleasant, "Good morning," " Good night," "phone call for you, , line 1. " Brief, and to the point.
Ask work related questions from the person assigned to train you.
In no time at all, you'll no longer be a newcomer. They just have to get used to you. And they will.
Don't ask, what happened to the person replaced.? I once asked, and was told he was killed in a car crash. No one resented me coming in to take his job,. but I felt VERY awkward.
Now relax, they would have never hired you if they didn't think you'd fit in. Good luck.

Everyone starts as a newcomer. It just takes a little time to get adjusted to the work enviornment and meeting new coworkers. Don't worry too much about making friends or office politics at first. Concentrate on doing your job as best you can and start off on the right foot.

Be cheerful and friendly with everyone. Don't say anything snide or cruel about anyone until you get to know who talks to whom. Your words will travel. Enjoy the experience and have a good time.
