I differ from the earlier answers.
At no point towards the end of WW2 did the allies have the strength to go against the soviet union militarily.
To avoid the cold war, two very improbable things would be needed. A better relationship with Soviet Russia post-WW1 and, in particular, not sending troops to support the White Russians...
And preventing WW2! After the invasion of Soviet terrritory virtually to Moscow, Stalin was looking for buffer states under his influence, if not control, to prevent that ever happening again.
(Hungary 1956, Czechoslovakia 1968)
That was never going to be acceptable to America.
How to avoid WW2? Another issue, involving
the Versailles treaty, American isolationism, the League of Nations, and the political and economic treatment of the Weimar republic.
Again, it could have happened, but not with a high hypothetical probability.
