When I was in Japan the woman of the household that I stayed with would grab a bit of rice out of the rice steamer and use it to seal envelopes. For some weird reason I was just remembering this the other day and it has been 20 years. Rice is starch, so it stands to reason.

My Dad, a white guy, would have if he'd needed to. He has always had a propensity to make up McGuiver like solutions. He once fixed a broken distributer, back in the days that cars had those, with a paperclip, and actually got the car running well enough to get home from a weekend trip.
