Where would this work and how could people want to do this?

you have drums one end and microphone down the other.
a person plays the drums then runs down the other end and sings.

I play in a band and I think the only way this could be done is :

The drummer is playing the Bongo's.
The drumming has been pre-recorded.
The drummer is in a pipe band and can move around.

record the drum play and then play it back while they sing.
