I will not shop at walmart and have not for years. They pay their employees starvation wages and refuse to offer affordable medical coverage.

It is no different than the sweat shops that Kathie Lee was ostracized for. A recent survey showed that most Wal-mart employees are on some form of public assistance such as state medicaid, food stamps, assisted childcare.

If the stock holders are making a profit why are the employees having to pay $500 for crummy insurance that leaves employees with out of pocket expenses that often exceed their annual income?

I won't shop at wal-mart until they treat their employees like human beings. Because the businesses that they shut down when Sam Walton was running the show treated their employees like humans.

Just look at the greeters. I sounds good on the surface, let someone on social security work for a little extra money. Just look at those poor old people having to stand on their feet the next time you go in the door. Looks like they could provide them with a chair to rest on. Some of these people look to be in their 70's. I'm sure the Government subsidizes their wages.

I'm sure the government actually pays their wages, so walmart looks good, yet they make these poor old people stand on their feet and they don't even pay them.

I think Raymond sums up walmart very nicely.
I think Chuck has done his homework on Walmart.

And to the jerk who said people are free to go somewhere else. Every since the 80's there is no moral consciousness in this country. Shame on you. You and people like you are the reason for moral decay in this country!

Of course Walmart, Kmart, Zellers, etc are anti-union. The union interferes with day to day work. They make lazy department store employees lazier and they cost more in dues to employees than they (the employees) would get back out of it. They are a pain in the *** for this type of business. Should miners or factory workers have unions? Of course it's dangerous and they can afford the dues. Walmart? come on. And why not shop there? It's cheap. You shouldn't be anti-Walmart simply because Walmart is successful. Should I be anti- American then?

It's the same with McDonald's too. If there is even a possibility of a strike, the corporation just decides to close the entire store permanently. Americans just have to understand that paying more for products is just better. If everything were cheap - everyone looses except the corporation making the money. The consumers end up with a shoddy product and employee wages goto hell in a hand basket.

Wall Mart from what I understand IS anti-union. As an employee for Safeway (a unionized grocery store chain), I've read in union local news letters that they encourage you as a unionized employee to boycott Wal Mart.

Wal Mart says that it's not anti-union, but the unions themselves say otherwise.

Personally I don't like to shop at Wal Mart either.

If Walmart goes union the prices will not be as reasonable as they are now. That is the catch 22 of having a union. That is why so many of the corporations have left the country to go to other countries like China, Sri Lanka, and Mexico to manufacture and use people to work in the factories there. The manufacturing company Levi left and went to Mexico in order to keep their factory open.

From the thumbs down you evidently know nothing about ecomonics. The cost of the overhead which include wages have to come from the sale of the commodities.

there is nothing wrong with ant union.
Walmart has a right to do business as it wants. If you do not like it you do not have to work there.
I shop at walmart because it is cheap. All these ignorant walmart haters drive foreign cars built by non union workers and cost American union workers jobs.
People shop at walmart because it is cheaper. If you do not like cheaper items do not buy walmart go some place more expensive. The can sell cheaper because they do not have to waste money on crazy beneift packages and vactions for normal employees. The normal employees are non skilled workers. If you think non skilled workers should get 100k a year and 2 months vaction then maybe you should boycott walmart

Unions were great when they started. Now there putting Americans out of work with there outrageous pay scales. Why do you think all the jobs are going to China? I don't support Walmart, but I understand where there coming from. Were just going to have to give up some of this countries high wages or pretty soon there will be no wages.

Walmart is a rip off for it's employees and any area they force themselves into. Pull up Walmart on your search bar and see how many people the ticked off this week. Their health plan for it's employees is medicare, they keep there employees at poverty level wages so they don't have to pay benefits. They have made plenty of money off these same people so there is no reason they shouldn't pay the same as there competitors. It's not going to raise prices either, since they don't pay as much for their goods as others nor do they have the same quality. You get what you pay for. I happily pay more just not to shop at Walmart.

In my opinion, Wal Mart is an inexpensive way for families to shop and be able to afford all the things they need. Their employees don't make big bucks, but then again they are not rocket scientists. They hire kids, housewives and senior citizens. The employees have the right to get another job any time they want.
