Battle of Stalingrad:
Advisors warn Hitler that he should move some troops to the North and South to protect from Russian invasion. He does not listen and on November 19, 1942 the Russians attack from the North and South and surround the Germans.
In January of 1943 the Russians claim the last German airfield and the Germans lose their supplies and food. On January 30, 1943 Germany surrenders, but Hitler does not officially end the battle until February 2, 1943.
El Alamein:
The British Army recaptured Tobruk on 12th November, 1942. During the El Alamein campaign half of Rommel's 100,000 man army was killed, wounded or taken prisoner. He also lost over 450 tanks and 1,000 guns. The British and Commonwealth forces suffered 13,500 casualties and 500 of their tanks were damaged. However, of these, 350 were repaired and were able to take part in future battles.
Winston Churchill was convinced that the battle of El Alamein marked the turning point in the war and ordered the ringing of church bells all over Britain. As he said later: "Before Alamein we never had a victory, after Alamein we never had a defeat."
Joseph Stalin:
Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili better known by his adopted name, Joseph Stalin (alternatively transliterated Josef Stalin), was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union's Central Committee from 1922 until 1953.
Yalta Conference:
In February, 1945, Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt met again. This time the conference was held in Yalta in the Crimea.
From the west:
During World War II, Operation Plunder was the crossing of the Rhine river at Rees, Wesel and south of the Lippe Canal by the British Second Army, under Lieutenant-General Sir Miles Dempsey, and the US Ninth Army, under Lieutenant-General William Simpson.

1. Stalingrad
2. In North Africa the battle that "turned the tide", so to speak, was fought at El Alamein. It was not "horrendous" since the war in North Africa was largely a war fough on humanitarian principles. In Europe the Battle for Berlin was the most horrendous.

2. This is an oddly worded question. The Germans lost about as many men in the final battles in Tunisia as the did at Stalingrad.
17. I presume the "where" is Russia. The attack in 1944 is the Normandy Invasion...i.e. D-Day
27. Yalta

Historians have been debating that since WWII began. Probably the most historically accurate answer is that the harsh treatment of Germany in the Treaty of Versailles, the powerlessness of the League of Nations, and the failure of the Treaty of Versailles' drafters to address certain issues left from WWI combined to set off the chain of events leading to WWII. The Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations were the result of WWI--the causes of which are another whole question.
