well u can see the chromosomes during cell division called mitosis...there are several phases: Interphases, Prophase, Metaphase where the chromosomes become visible, Anaphase, Telophase and Telokinesis.

Chromosomes are only visible when cells are dividing. They appear during prophase of mitosis or during prophase I of meiosis I. Otherwise the material is in unformed blobs of chromatin.

Also, I really wish people would STOP including interphase with mitosis. Interphase happens before mitosis. It is NOT a part of mitosis. Interphase is a part of the cell cycle. Mitosis is PMAT!
