okay, here's what's going on:

i have fairly random sharp pains in the left side of my chest. i'm 28 and a female, so i don't think i should be having any sort of heart trouble, and there's no history of heart disease in my family. it annoys me though, and it's a really sharp pain that goes away pretty quickly.

and it's been happening for a long time. i'm sure i should get it chcked by a doctor, but doctors are hardly ever able to give me any actual answers, so i figured asking here couldn't be a bad start.

fma.org is the wrong site for fibromyalgia, but i googled it and figured it out. according to definitions, fibromyalgia is all over, not local to just one specific site on the body. this pain is very very specific, and i could pinpoint it to one starting point and a very small range of area on my body.

i had a bout earlier today while on the bus home. i had not eaten a thing since 9 am and the pain occured between 730 and 830 pm. perhaps i should eat more? i think this may rule out heartburn (or any pain caused by what i am eating, at the least).

You are probably going to get a long list of possible illnesses.
So here is my contribution: I had pain like that for many years before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
What ever it is, or isn't, keep going back to the doctor until you get results that actually address the pain. Be the squeaky wheel, no matter how hard that is.
Keep a diary of the pain -with every detail you can think of: time of day, duration, where else you had pain, exercise you were doing just before the pain, what you ate. Yeah, it's a pain in the...chest, but it will help.

For more on fibromyalgia, go to fma.org, but don't self-diagnose.
Don't give up and don't despair, just keep at it.

Have you ever heard of applied kinesiology, also known as muscle testing? Well, if you can find a nutritional therapist in your area, then I can pretty much guarantee that he will find what the problem is. I know most people think it's bonkers, but it works! Example: I used to always be injuring my muscles without any apparent reason, but I went to a nutritional therapist, and it turned out I was allergic to wheat! Now I never pull muscles.

Sharp pain usually means lungs not heart... Are you a smoker ??? Drugs... ECT???

Acid reflux is always an answer.... Try cutting out spicy foods, try pepcid or tagament.. Keep following up with your doc....

You do need to be checked by a Doctor. Even young people can have heart problems. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck.

Its normal, Its called heart burn. Its not the same as Indigestion. I get it to. sometimes its so sharp that I cannot breath for a few seconds. But like you said, it passes quickly.

my first instinct is that you may have mitral valve prolapse (M.V.P.) It is extremely common, and usually non-problematic.
Check out this link:

It will tell you everything you need to know about MVP. Hope this helps.

since this isn't an acute problem, you will need a full workup by your family doctor. make an appointment.
