I'd like to be able to do hair, nails and facials, and then someday own my own salon. Any idea of how much I'd make (not as a salon owner)?

My daughter also has aspirations in this field, so we've been checking it out....We live in Utah, which is on the LOW-LOW end of the payscale compared to the rest of the US. A previous answerer said "not less than $3000.00 a month." If that's true, where do I sign up? However, it is true that your clientel is the money-making factor. How long are you willing to stand on your feet, waiting for the next Walk-In, hopefully snagging them before the other 6 stylists in the shop, then engaging in idle gossip, acting like you're interested, hoping you've gained ONE client who will come back in a month. This is a tough business, and those doing it have both my sympathy and admiration! If this is what you want to do, do NOTHING less than strive for ownership!! Get it as soon as possible (look into government grants for new small business....the money is out there!) Start charging booth rent at around$1500.00 per month (on average, that's what they're charging around here.) INSTALL TANNING BEDS!!! That will get you the boost of income you need to see that it's going to work out in the long run! Otherwise, if you don't seek ownership, you'll be a tired, broke, woman with vericose veins at too young an age....on the bright side, you can always marry for wealth. :) (kidding)

Sorry if this isn't very optimistic, but honestly, unless you are absolutely head over heels in love with the work (long hours and every single weekend), ownership is the only way to profit.
