If you are a Technical Director or Director in can truly be Tech week. If you are a cast member it can easily be thought a Hell week. If you are the Stage Manager it is "I'm going to go nuts week."

It's all in your point of view

Of course there is always the color of costumes when they go under the lights for the first time and nobody checked the gel colors against the Material used. That's a "panic week."

After 53 years in the business, I'm beginning to catch on.

I think most of us techies consider it tech week. It may seem grueling for actors because you must be present to go through things that don't necessarilly focus on you. But do remember that the Tech people who make you look good do work behind the scenes and only get a couple of days (which works out to a few hours) to actually work on their craft with the cast present. It is crucial to the appearance and success of your production. There are many times that the actors will leave our theatre at ten o'clock exhausted, and then the tech people stay until one or two fixing what they need to.

Remember, without your tech designers, you'd be performing on a bare set, in regular clothes, no one could hear you and it would be completely dark.

I'm teching a show right now! We go into "Production mode" for two weeks before the show, the second week being tech, where we tech lights and cound, add the costumes have a dress rehearsal and then open the show. When I did community theatre, I called it HEEEEELLLLLLL week, though the directors insisted it was heck week.

It's all about where you are and what kind of company you are with.

Depends on who I'm talking to. People who aren't involved in theatre are told that I'm in Tech Week. People "in the know" are told Hell Week. And actually, it really depends on the show. There have been Tech Weeks that were a breeze and some that were pure hell!

Here's the thing about Tech/Hell Week: It's like childbirth. You forget how painful it is.
