The tallest building is the if you count the antenna is the Sears Tower in Chicago at 1,730 feet.

Tallest building if you don't count the antenna is the Taipei 101 in Taiwan at 1,671 feet.

The tallest tower though is the CN Tower in Canada at 1,815 feet.

And the tallest thing built that goes in the water are Petronius Platforms in the Gulf of Mexico at 2,001 feet.

But the tallest thing built by man is the KVLY-TV mast in North Dakota. it is 2,063 feet tall. Followed closely by the Warsaw radio mas in Poland at 2,120 feet.

As you can see there are a lot of tallest things. It all depends on what you consider a building.

The CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is considered the tallest manmade structure but there are people who want this category divided into tallest tower and tallest building. As far as I am concerned it takes both cakes as it is a tower in the radio transmission sense and it also features a restaurant and observation deck making it the tallest building as well. It stands 553.33 meters (1,815 ft 5 in) tall. There are other towers that are taller but they are not free standing and have to be anchored to the ground with wires to support them making them invalid as freestanding so I guess it depends on if it needs to be self supporting like a building or of it can be grounded with wires.
