I will never again spay a dog.
I was all for spay/neuter until I had my current dog spayed.
Did you know that 30% of all large breed female dogs will become incontinent within a couple of years of their spay? (8% of small breed females) It's called Spay Incontinence.
It took Brandy 6 months to lose control of her bladder.
She takes medication twice daily, and now at 5 years of age, is at the maximum dosage, and is leaking. It won't be long and the medication won't control her at all, then she'll have to go into diapers.
Read the reasons given for surrendering animals to the shelters -- for spayed female dogs, very high on that list is "failure to housetrain" or "improper urination".
Makes me wonder just how many of those poor dogs were actually incontinent due to their spay.
In the great scheme of things, it would be much easier to deal with an intact female than to deal with an incontinent one. Keeping an intact female away from males isn't that big of a deal, but the mindset you have to get past is the one that the dog "deserves" to run loose.

I cannot speak for anyone but myself. I've always had my dogs and cats spayed and neutered, but I no longer have dogs and cats. I think it is very important to spay and neuter dogs and cats (unless you're a certified breeder). But I now own exotics, and the animals I have cannot be spayed or neutered because the procedure either doesn't exist or it's far too risky. I have reptiles. Six of them. Only one is female, and she has her very own locked terrarium, away from my male of the same species, who also has a locked terrarium as well. I think it's important that exotic animals in captivity not be spayed or neutered even if they can be because so many of their numbers are dwindling in the wild. Instead, I think more captive breeding programs should be funded so we can save these creatures, like the tiger, panda, and even the ball python, because they are threatened in the wild as well. Cats and dogs are one thing. Exotics are another. We need to decrease the population of domesticated animals that have been abandoned and increase the number of endangered exotic animals so they can be released into their native habitats and get them off the endangered species list.

I think it's either because they don't want to spend the money, or they have some crazy fool idea to breed the animal. I have always had my female dogs spayed early, when it's easy to do. I guess part of the problem too is that these people just chuck the pet outside without any restraint or fencing. Then they wonder why it wanders away? Yikes. Speaking of that why don't cities have a law about wandering cats?!!!! They should be licensed just as much as dogs are!

It's no longer that they are in opposition to reform, they simply do not desire an excessive amount of reform. Too a lot reform probably way an excessive amount of executive. I agree, the GOP went to sleep on the wheel throughout their watch and they have got been looking to get again each and every on the grounds that. The GOP has provided recommendations, however the Democrats would possibly not pay attention of it. If it's not anything that makes the Government higher and extra strong, then the Democrat do not desire to listen to it. However, the GOP turns out bigger at pointing the screw ups of the Democrats plan than they do advertising their possess plan. I feel the GOP demands to develop a spine and be extra competitive at explaining their recommendations. I feel persons could like their recommendations if they simply knew approximately them.

I personally am in favour of spaying/neutering cats, dogs, rabbits, and other animals which react well to surgery. however I do not have my guinea pig sows spayed, as it is far too risky, and I would far rather just keep them away from males than risk their lives through surgery. However I am planning on adopting a kitten soon, and will ensure he or she is spayed/neutered.

I think alot of people are against it because they figure that there pet should have the right to breed and make babies just like they do. An people I think don't really understand how over populated a lot of places are with animals such as cats and dogs, not to mention the amount of rabies of areas that are over populated.

Here's to anyone "dead-set" against spaying and neutering: Take one look at your local animal shelter and then try explaining why you shouldn't spay or neuter.

Lots of psuedo macho men who think spaying and neutering is against nature, they are idiots and need to be neutered themselves. they are ignorant and just be ignored. they also keep their pets outdoors when it is below zero and feed them scraps. Their animals are not pets. I pay no attention to those people, I listen to well informed people who have anything past a 10th grade education.

As would I.
If more folks would have their pets fixed then we wouldnt have such a problem with over crowded animal shelters and abandoned/loose strays running around which pose a potential risk to all.

I just had 2 puppies spayed/nutered. One male and one female. It cost $387 (for both)
I am all for spaying and nutering, just wish it didn't cost so much. I didn't qualify for low cost because 'I make too much money' (HA)
