Yes, but it is not always active.
Like everything else in you, it needs rest. This is called fatigue time ... when your brain pauses from one thought to the next.
That's how your mind takes a rest!

I think 24/7. it is a huge part of why I am such an insomniac. The only way I can go to sleep is if I exhaust myself to the point the fatigue shuts the body down. The mind is still going right up to when sleep ambushes it.
I am normally considering dozens of things at different levels so it's not a thinking about xyz it's about x and how it relates to y and how did z come about. How could i improve how Y was done. Why was Y the way it is. Whether I can make this or that bill. Worrying about something like whether a new band member will cut it or my favorite sports team's moves during the offseason. On other levels I'm thinking about projects I'm working on until they bubble to the surface.
I daydream constantly. I am ever curious. If I see a house out in the middle of nowhere I instantly conjure a history for that house. I imagine the people that probably once lived there and the history of the area and then take it off in fanciful directions about what might or could happen.
If there is nothing around me i work off long running day dreams that span sometimes centuries as they take months to wind down. Some eventually wind up as the basis of books I've written or fodder for dreams.
I analyze everything about me. If I walk into a bank I'm both thinking about how to rob it and how to make it more difficult to rob. About my bank balance which leads to other things all the while I'm noting the layout of the bank and ways to defeat/improve security.
Love thinking. Movies I love best are ones that make you think. While the action was cool in the Matrix the concepts were far cooler. The special effects could have sucked and I'd still have loved that movie. Chess is a wicked game. Kill crush and destroy teamed with deep strategy and personal interaction.
Well I think I've rambled enough :)

I think I think too much, so much that it drove me crazy when I was in the air force.
Except I channelized those thoughts into a spiritual growth that got me the Nirvana
Thinking is good, if you think too much you have to distract yourself with a lot of different activities through the day, keep yourself busy, read a lot, do sport and stuff like that

Yes, my mind is always thinking, a lot of the time it's not about anything that even matters, but I'm still thinking. I can't picture what not thinking would be like, just spacing off about nothing at all? Weird!

the mind and body operate 24/7 for the rest of your natural living life. It was a gift to you by a previous departing soul.
I think aproximately 760 times during a twelve hour period.
