Shaq is still the dominant player in the NBA. About 28 teams in the league would be title contenders with Shaq on the roster. All three teams he's been with have been to the finals, and he's 4 for 6 in finals appearances. Heck, Shaq carried an Orlando team into the finals that started Nick Anderson (who ultimately missed 4 straight free throws that cost Orlando the series).

As of right now, Yao Ming. The best Center in nba history however, would either come down to Shaq or Bill Russell in my opinion. But as of right now, Yao is the best Center int he league.

Right now, a toss up between Shaq and Yao. But by next season, it'll most likely be between Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh, when Bosh plays center that is.

All time though, Bill Russell. No question. 11 NBA Championships. 20+ pts/game, 20+rb/game, lifetime. Kareem and George Miken right behind though.

1. Yao Ming - Amazing skill set for center. Incredible efficiency, high FG%,FT%. Rare in a center.
2. Amare Stoudemire - STAT. Need I say more? Is not as consistent as Yao.
3. Dwight Howard - Monster. Boards, but can't shoot FT or FG's

Yao Ming. Not many would admit it but look at how well Yao is doing in Houston. He is 1/2 of Houston's 1-2 punch plus the fact that Houston is less than formiddable with Yao on the sidelines.

At this time, the best center in the league is still Shaq. The best center of all time would be either Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Wilt Chamberlain. (Oh, and the guy who said Larry Bird must not know much - Larry played small forward)
