No. Most naviagation systems are DVD based. The seller should give you the DVD's along with the car. Depending on how old the navigation is, you may want to buy the updated version of the DVD's.

I live in California and it seems like there are new streets popping up all over the place. So I get the new DVD's every other year.

You shouldn't have to if you get the disks with it.
You may still want to get the updated disks though. It will have the new streets.

Some nav units have the capability to tell you how traffic is in major cities and to reroute you to a faster route. Those require subscription and a satellite radio system. Good luck

If it is an OEM system you probably will plus if you subscribe you can get updates.
