ok my car (1996 ford taurus gl sedan, 3.0 v6) is cranking but not starting. it is getting fuel (as i sprayed either into the air intake thing while cranking), the battery is 100% charged, and the spark plugs are not getting sparks. i changed my coil pack, and my spark plugs and they still arent getting a spark. i just bought a crankshaft positioning sensor and just want to make sure before i try to put it on that there is a possibility thats what it is. honestly i think thats exactly what it is but i want some opinions.

It could be the crankshaft position sensor. It could also be a camshaft position sensor. Have tried to see if there are any codes in the computer? This particular year Taurus had tons of fuel pump issues. I know you said you sure its getting fuel but have you checked actual fuel pressure? Also, a aftermarket car alarm, if you have one, could also be causing problems. A Ford alarm will only cutoff fuel not spark. Just some other ideas to consider, I read your other questions. Sounds like a real pain in the ***.

before you change the sensor, check it. It should have two wires going to it, disconnect them and put the leads off a mulitmeter in the holes. Have someone try to turn the engine over. If you have a strobe (the display on the mulitmeter goes from one extreem to the other) then the sensor is ok. While youare there, make sure that one of the wires has power and the other is a true ground. Something else to check is the ignition module. Pull it, and take it to the local parts store, they will be able to check it for you. Hope it helps, and good luck.

Crank sensors and cam sensors can cause a no spark condition - the cam sensor is located at the rear of the engine near transmission - you may need to lift up wiring harnesses to access.

check the ground on the motor or check the ignition wires

the cam is what opens and closes the air intake and the exhaust out put and has nothing to do with the the ignition

i own a repair shop and you have a bad control module on it that's what controls the spark on it,and allows it to spark, when it goes dead you have nothing on it at all,I'm surprised someone didn't already come up with that one,but that's whats causing it I'm not sure exactly where its located at on that one but that's whats causing it not to start,it can be a crank sensor ,but i doubt it,good luck with it hope this helps.

CPS is certainly possible. Assuming your ignition is distributorless, then that's probably the only component left (except maybe the ignition relay)... if it doesn't work, you might be left chasing electrical goblins.
